Income Taxes, Due April 30! Ionia boasts one of the lowest tax rates for cities in West Michigan. Our operating property tax rate for the City of Ionia is just 3 mills and is levied on the summer property tax bill, there are also special millages for Environmental cleanup, Dial-A-Ride, DDA(only if you are in the DDA district) and Public Safety. The remaining amount collected on the summer and winter is for schools, intermediate school district, and the County of Ionia. A homeowner pays approximately 23 mills; a business 41 mills (which includes the state education millage). The City of Ionia has an income tax – 1% on residents and 0.5% on non-residents who work in Ionia. The income tax is due on April 30 of each year.
