PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROHIBITS PARKING VEHICLES ON THE BERM OR FRONT YARD IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS.  CONTINUED PARKING ON THE BERM OR FRONT YARD WILL RESULT IN A (COURT APPEARANCE TICKET) BEING ISSUED TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLES AND/OR PROPERTY OWNER

A Reminder from the Code Enforcement Department

Every year the City of Ionia Code Enforcement Department  receives complaints of slippery sidewalks throughout the city. Snow and ice buildup on sidewalks not only presents a hazard for anyone walking on the sidewalks but it forces people to walk in the streets exposing them to vehicular traffic.

Ionia City Code states that any occupant or owner of a sidewalk within the City of Ionia shall clear the snow and ice from the sidewalk within 12 hours after snowfall ceases.

If the owner or occupant fails to clear the ice or snow from the sidewalk within the time limited, the City Manager may cause the same to be cleared and the expense of removal shall be collected  from the owner or occupant of the premises.

Complaints will be given priority and there will be no advance notice to the owner of a snow -covered sidewalk.

The City of Ionia Code Enforcement Department would be glad to answer any questions from the public regarding the sidewalk ordinance or any other City ordinance.
